Welcome to the study of economics and South Africa. The purpose of this website is to introduce students to the life, learning and effects of economics on students in South Africa.
Mr. Rodman, an economics teacher, at John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, traveled with 23 other U.S. teachers to South Africa in the summer of 2010 to visit schools there, observe economics classes, and talk with students about what they were learning, their aspirations and how education has impacted their futures.
Much of this site is dedicated to that journey, to help U.S. students better understand what South African students are learning, the role education plays in their lives, and how it affects their future.
We hope you enjoy it and are able to learn from these interactions and experiences as Mr. Rodman did in his travels to share them with students today.
